'ROLL BACK THE CLOCK' IN THE SHADE

Recently undergoing upgrades to its facilities, Beaumont Bowling Club members are now able to ‘Roll back the Clock’ in the comfort of new retractable shades. Burnside Mayor, Anne Monceaux stated “Funded by the club and with Council support, these new shades were designed and installed by Shadeform. They retract so are used as and when needed, as they will be tomorrow.’

To protect bowlers from the harsh Australian sun and maximise use of the club, the Club chose the hugely popular Shaderunner® retractable shade system. The project site required a solution that was durable and effective in providing shade, while also being easy for the Bowlers to use, and capable of spanning the length of the 36.5 metre ends of the green with seamless support. Given the flexibility of the Shaderunner® Pro system, the team knew it could get the job done.

Shaderunner® Australia was engaged to design, manufacture and install six retractable shade systems, with 3 x linked shades on either ends of the green. The design brief was that there was a narrower 2.15m wide shade needed near the Clubhouse end of the B Green, but a double sided wider 3.5m shade needed that could shade both cojoining Greens B&C. The shades were also angled/sloped to the North by 3 degrees to achieve the required shade footprint that the Club requested. A 3D shade study was completed, and drawings produced to satisfy the Club that these were meeting the requirements.

To ensure the structures could achieve what was required, engineering was performed to enable the linked Shaderunner® systems to span the total of 36.5 metres at each end. The linked Shaderunner® systems provide a mammoth 210 square metres of retractable shade on demand!

The systems consisted of 4 x steel T Posts which were 2 pack painted with engineered footings for each end of Green, plus marine grade stainless steel wires, pulleys, tensioning fittings, control cords and cleats.

Each fabric sail is easily extended and retracted independently utilising the cord system. Each of the linked systems has high-strength tensile running wires with a series of quality custom ball bearing yachting pulleys offering slick, low-friction movement and a dependable operating system and ensures years of trouble-free shade with minimal maintenance.

The fully retractable system gives users the ultimate in convenience with unlimited configurations combined with unmatched aesthetics. The Shaderunner® system is easy to use and offers premium UV protection along with shade and thermal comfort.

The Shaderunner® is manufactured from a range of rigorously tested fabrics, from 95 percent polyester mesh to waterproof PVC. Each fabric is mould resistant and is available in a wide range of colours.

The system is easily operated by one person, with the low-friction operation allowing slick movement of the fabric to provide shade when required and then easily retract back when not in use.

The unique qualities of the Shaderunner® enable it to be utilised for a multitude of applications, from the smallest domestic setting, right up to large span commercial projects, such as sports venues, wineries, aquatic parks and hotels.
